smart home alarm system

Detection EfficiencyOur detection efficiency testing is for comparison purposes only and was not designed to replace industry standard safety certifications carried by each unit we reviewed. Perhaps the most important thing we learned from our testing is that smoke detectors have a limited range, which is one of the reasons modern building codes require a unit in every bedroom as well as in areas adjacent to bedrooms. To test effectiveness, we sprayed test smoke from an aerosol can directly at each device and timed how long it took the alarm to sound. We sprayed the test smoke from 5, 10 and 15 feet away. Every detector sounded within 30 seconds at the 5 foot mark. Three smart smoke alarms –Nest Protect, Halo+ and First Alert Onelink – went off at the 10 foot mark.

It also makes use of a red LED accompanied by an intermittent chirp that sounds every 32 seconds to signify that your battery power is low. One major feature of this unit that stands out from its competition is its durability. When maintained properly, the Ardwolf smoke detector types can operate for as long as ten years with no issues. Its ten year service life is due to its low power consumption and the use of a UL listed battery. It must be cleaned every six months to get rid of dust and must be tested once a month to ensure that it’s in good operational health. The Ardwolf smoke and fire alarm is a versatile unit fit for use in a myriad of places.

I will share this with you momentarily. UPDATE 02/10/2017: It has come to my attention that this is a pretty wordy and long review. I'm sure not everyone is interested in, for instance, the things that I tried that didn’t work. Fair enough. For the convenience of those that would like to skip over those unnecessary details, after you read the sentence that begins with “The biggest issue I have had,” skip ahead to where you see SOLUTION. Pros:The daytime video on this thing is excellent and the color night vision is phenomenal. Physical set up was a breeze. Our existing doorbell was mounted to the brick and mortar wall, and Skybell's bracket matched up perfectly with the existing holes, so no drilling. Had I needed to though, it comes with the proper drill bit to do so. I do have to ding them for the mounting screw. It is plastic and stripped almost immediately so I had to finish tightening it with some needle nose pliers.
