2. As these companies continue to come up with better surveillance technology we will start to see a large drop in price as they are able to take on more customers. This means that these services will no longer be locked in with big companies, but will now be an option for the common house owner as well. One of the biggest changes that the internet of things has brought to homes is the ability to control your home while you are away. You can now change the temperature, lock the doors, turn off the lights, even turn on your T. V. suddenly you could receive a message on your phone, that tells you someone has unplugged your T. V. These types of messages can be programmed so well that you can receive for just about anything, for instance if your front door opens while you're away on vacation. Now imagine that you also have control over your home alarm, you can check your IP hosted camera and see who is in your house and then sound the alarm if you need to. The possibilities are endless, and the low cost involved in setting up these types of protections will allow the majority of households to set up powerful home security systems in the future.

Among other things, you’ll have to decide between a “cellular primary” or “broadband primary” system. The former is a wireless connection to the monitoring station, making it immune to power outages or someone cutting a cable. It is limited, however, with regard to transmitting large quantities of video, so many cellular primary systems incorporate broadband for video. Broadband primary services, on the other hand, have cables running down the side of a house that can be cut, thereby disabling the system. Some services offer cellular back up should this occur. Look for a home security system with a full line of wireless peripherals, including modules for controlling lights and appliances, thermostats, cameras, motion sensors some can distinguish between a pet and a person, water sensors, and glass break and vibration sensors.

I would much rather explore other options. Choose a wireless system, or even choose something with a combination of both. One option that I have also considered is the use of a generator as a backup, or even several generators as a backup. The only problem with this is that generators have small gas tanks, and it will not be much fun having to go outside every few hours to fill your machine with gas. That is also assuming that you would be able to find gas at affordable prices at that point. Another solution is to have a generator connected right into your home power system.
